This video is a collection of photos from my second visit to Pahalgam in 2005. It’s one of my favorite places; the people are beautiful and the landscape is gorgeous.
The Kashmiris are dying for their freedom (azad), yet a resolution seems a long way off. Neither India nor Pakistan want to relinquish their stronghold on a state that wants to be independent from both countries decades old politics, which many feel are related to water rights. Fighting in the region has worsened since the Mumbai attacks.
I hope to return to Pahalgam one day and gift these amazing people with their portraits!
EXTREMELY GOOD PICS! KUDOS TO YOU!!!!!!!
COULD GO ON SEEING THEM FOREVER
Thank you chetnasamant. I agree, I too could look at the portraits of these amazing people for hours on end. I have more photos of them that I hope to be posting in the near future. I have several blogs and projects going simultaneously, so time and energy is a factor. Do keep checking back.
Kashmiris are dying because they are mislead by Pakistan against India.
Millions of Kashmiri Hindus have been displaced from their ancestral homes by the treacherous muslim neighbours, and they are forced to live as refugees in camps.
Numeric religious majority alone is not an excuse to demand independence, and the Kashmiris must learn to live in a vibrant democratic society.
Only after the Tibetians gat Tibet, and the Balochs get Balochistan, can there be any change in India’s stand on Kashmir.

Amazing pictures. Touchy articulation. May your purpose be achieved !!
I think you should make more videos, not just on India, but on all the stuff you discuss elsewhere. If I could get my act together, I would like to. Writing can be powerful, but images even more so.
i think so too colin. i am working on going through my thousands of images from india, with the intent of telling stories with them. as important as the book project is to me, i agree, images tell a more powerful story, without the subjectivity of the written word in the mix. i intend to go out in the world with my camera more – i see stories everywhere in life! please share yours too.
First, I need to get a camera! Then I need to get to grips with some basic knowledge of film making, if only for you tube. I’m hopeless as far as technology is concerned. I haven’t owned a camera for eight years. But I’ve been wanting to get into basic film making for a while.
i’ve been into photography since i was a teen, but with digital, it’s really increased my passion for it, because it’s a tool that teaches. i’ve also been wanting to get into the film medium. as close as i get is to watch director’s cuts on films that interest me. p.s. i’ll check your latest article out soon!
